Volda Municipality has been using Vitalthings Somnofy for the past five years. This year, they will introduce Guardian H10, bringing the total number of Vitalthings units in operation to over 200 across departments and in home care services. – It reduces the physical strain on staff, as night shift workers no longer have to walk around the department as much. Mentally, it is also beneficial because we have better control and oversight of how the patients are doing.

That’s according to Karianne Sveen Orvik, the municipality’s coordinator for welfare technology.

She emphasizes the importance of allowing staff to spend time with patients without worrying about what is happening in other rooms.

– With Somnofy in every room, caregivers can stay with a patient who is awake and needs reassurance while simultaneously monitoring the rest of the department on their tablet, she says.

So far, Somnofy has been used in more than 40 municipalities. Now, Vitalthings Guardian H10 is launching—the next generation of health monitoring for municipalities—designed for medical services. Les mer om den her.

Volda Municipality also uses Somnofy during the day.

– During the morning report, staff review the night report to see how the residents slept. Did they sleep less than usual? Were they more restless? Has their breathing rate changed? In the nursing home, data and trends are also reviewed with the supervising physician. This allows us to detect changes, including those related to medication adjustments, says Sveen Orvik.

How is Vitalthings' solution different from the way you normally work?

–It has eliminated the need for routine night rounds to check on patients. That is a
huge benefit – especially for the patients, who can sleep undisturbed.

What are your expectations for Guardian H10?

– I have high expectations for Guardian H10. It will offer many more possibilities over time. We plan to use it in home care services because we need better tools to monitor patients at home. Currently, we have to travel to the patient every time a safety alarm is triggered. We have ferries, fjords, and long distances to cover. If we can monitor patients remotely, we will be much better equipped to prioritize. The ability to track multiple vital parameters from a distance will be crucial in the future, and we look forward to using Guardian H10 for this, says Sveen Orvik.

Guardian H10 is designed for medical services, and will address even more needs in municipal healthcare. It is built on the same technological platform as Guardian M10, without the use of cameras or body-worn sensors, making it less intrusive in terms of patient safety and user comfort.
